It requires genuine bravery to release our grip on the present and reach for the possibilities that lie ahead. It’s an act of courage to uproot ourselves—mentally, emotionally, and sometimes physically—to move forward and fulfill the purpose God has set for us. This involves embracing new roles, launching innovative ventures, and expanding our influence.
This has undoubtedly been my experience time and time again.
As I’ve pursued the initiatives that God has placed in my heart—such as A21 and Propel Women—I’ve learned the importance of flexibility. I’ve allowed God to broaden my capacity and cultivate within me a courageous pioneering spirit. This spirit is about venturing into uncharted territory, trusting in God’s constant presence. I consistently place my faith in God’s words to Joshua and the Israelites as they prepared to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land:
“Then you will know which way to go, *since you have never been this way before**…and the Lord will do amazing things among you” (Joshua 3:4-5).*
Joshua dedicated himself to the Lord, and God fulfilled his promise, just as stated in this verse. He calls us to do the same—to willingly proceed even when the path ahead is unfamiliar. In essence, we won’t always have a complete roadmap, so we must courageously pioneer as we progress. Understanding the pioneer woman meaning in this context is about recognizing this inherent courage and call to action within women.
A pioneer is defined as someone who is “the first to open or prepare a way, settlement, or region, thereby making it accessible for others to occupy or develop.” Essentially, a pioneer leads the way, going first, ahead of others. Then, move forward, overcoming every challenge, keeping sight of your God-given purpose. We are surrounded by heroes of faith, pioneering saints cheering us on from heaven:
“Do you see what this means—all these *pioneer**s who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” (Hebrews 12:1-3).*
