The Role: Staff Engineer

We are currently seeking a talented Staff Engineer to join our dynamic Engineering Department. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in the planning, design, and operational support of our electric distribution system. This position offers a diverse range of responsibilities, requiring a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork. You will be at the forefront of ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and safety of our electrical infrastructure, directly contributing to the seamless delivery of power to our community.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Staff Engineer, you will be involved in a variety of essential functions, including:

  • Distribution System Design & Maintenance: Assist in the design, analysis, and upkeep of both overhead and underground electric distribution lines, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
  • System Studies & Analysis: Conduct thorough system studies to proactively identify and address potential issues, ensuring system reliability, minimizing outages, and enhancing overall safety.
  • Project Support: Provide crucial technical support for a wide array of projects, from new construction and system upgrades to essential maintenance initiatives, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Engineering Documentation: Develop detailed engineering designs, precise specifications, and accurate cost estimates for upcoming projects, ensuring projects are well-planned and financially sound.
  • Collaboration & Compliance: Work closely with internal teams and external partners to effectively coordinate projects, ensuring seamless execution and strict adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Technology Advancement: Support the integration and advancement of system automation, smart grid technologies, AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure), AI (Artificial Intelligence), and other cutting-edge technologies to modernize and optimize our infrastructure.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in emergency response efforts, providing vital technical assistance during outages and storm restoration, ensuring our community is quickly and safely reconnected to power.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay ahead of the curve by continuously learning about industry standards, adopting best practices, and exploring emerging technologies to drive ongoing improvements in the cooperative’s engineering operations.

Qualifications:

To thrive in this role, you should possess:

  • Educational Foundation: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field is essential.
  • Professional Growth: The ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license is considered a significant plus and encouraged for career advancement.
  • Industry Experience: A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in electric utility engineering, providing a solid understanding of the industry’s unique challenges and opportunities.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of electric distribution systems, relevant design standards, substations, utility technology applications, and construction best practices.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with industry-standard engineering software and tools, including AutoCAD, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and power system analysis software is highly desired.
