Retainer Fee Information:
- Refunds: Players nominated but not selected for All-Star Team 1 will receive a full refund of their retainer fee.

Eligibility and Expectations:
- Coach Nomination Required: Only players nominated by their Head Coach are eligible for All-Star team selection and participation.
- Nomination Criteria: Coaches should nominate players with the potential to compete at the All-Star level and represent PYBSA effectively.
- Top Talent: All-Star teams are designed to showcase the league’s most talented players who are ready for a higher level of competition. Coaches are asked to nominate players who are truly prepared for All-Star play.
Time Commitment: What to Expect During All-Stars
The time commitment for All-Star teams varies and is determined by the selected Manager and the team’s tournament schedule.
- Team Dedication: Historically, All-Star teams are expected to practice when not actively participating in a tournament.
- Manager Discretion: All-Star managers have the flexibility to set practice schedules based on team needs and tournament plans.
- Fundraising: All-Star teams are self-funded, requiring active participation from team members and families in fundraising activities (e.g., car washes, raffles).
- Season Length: The All-Star summer season typically concludes in mid to late July, depending on the team’s success and tournament progression.
Practice Schedule: Getting Game Ready
Practice schedules are set by the All-Star Manager once teams are formed.
- Post-Season Start: Full practices usually commence shortly after the end of the recreational season tournament.
- Field Access: PYBSA will allocate field times for All-Star teams, with scheduling approval from the President and Vice President.
- Likely Practice Days: Practice slots are most likely to be scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Costs Involved: Understanding the Investment
The final start-up costs for each All-Star team will be determined by the selected Manager, aiming to minimize expenses for team members through fundraising.
- Fundraising Impact: The total cost for each player depends significantly on the team’s fundraising success and the team’s competitive goals for the season.
- Initial Costs: Startup funds are needed quickly after team selection to cover uniforms and essential equipment.
- Retainer Allocation: $100.00 from each player’s retainer fee will be provided back to the team (via PYBSA check to the Manager) to help with initial expenses. The total amount will depend on the final team roster size, which PONY rules dictate to be between 12-15 players.
- Retainer Usage: These retainer funds are specifically intended to facilitate the immediate financial needs of the team, such as purchasing uniforms and equipment.
- Net Cost Calculation: The $100.00 retainer portion per player reduces the overall start-up costs determined by the manager.
- Team Meeting: The All-Star Team Manager will organize a team meeting with selected players and families to discuss any remaining start-up costs and fundraising plans.
- Total Retainer Fee: Remember, the total retainer fee per player is $200.00.
Player Selections: How All-Star Teams Are Formed
PYBSA is committed to a fair and transparent player selection process.
- Mandatory Evaluations: PYBSA will host mandatory player evaluations for all nominated players. Dates and times will be announced soon – stay tuned!
- Nomination List Distribution: The PYBSA Player Agent will compile and distribute a list of all nominated players to league coaches before evaluations.
- Coach Participation: All league coaches are required to attend player evaluations.
- Voting Process: Following evaluations, each league coach will vote for their top 12 player picks from those evaluated.
- Team 1 Roster: The top six players receiving the majority vote (plus any ties) will automatically secure a spot on Team 1 All-Star roster. The remaining Team 1 roster spots will be filled at the discretion of the Team 1 Manager.
- Formation of Additional Teams: League coaches will then vote to determine if forming a second (or subsequent) All-Star team is beneficial for players, parents, and the league. A majority vote (51%) from all league coaches is required to form additional teams.
We look forward to a successful All-Star season with the Pioneer Youth Baseball & Softball Association! Stay updated on evaluation dates and further announcements through our website and communications.
