2024-2025 SEASON BROCHURE – VIEW
The Pioneer Center is proud to introduce Golden Encore, an innovative outreach program designed to bring the joy of performing arts to senior citizens. Understanding the vital role of arts and community engagement in overall well-being, the Pioneer Center has created Golden Encore specifically to serve seniors in our community. This program delivers exceptional entertainment and lifelong learning directly to seniors where they live, congregate, and receive care, including senior centers, assisted living facilities, libraries, and more.
Recognizing the challenges faced by seniors, the Pioneer Center developed Golden Encore in response to concerning local data. A “Seniors Quality of Life Survey” in March 2022 highlighted significant issues in Washoe County, revealing that a large majority of seniors experience feelings of isolation and barriers to community participation. Compounding this, the rate of suicide among seniors in the region is alarmingly high, double the national average. Driven by these findings and the well-documented health benefits of engaging with the arts, the Pioneer Center team launched Golden Encore as a proactive step to enhance the quality of life for seniors in our region.
Golden Encore features a curated roster of professional performing artists who offer programs brimming with music, movement, historical insights, and nostalgic journeys down memory lane. Each program is thoughtfully designed, incorporating expert-endorsed components known to positively impact the mental and physical health of seniors. Through careful research and specialized artist training, Golden Encore ensures a meaningful and beneficial experience for participants.
The Pioneer Center is committed to making arts accessible to all members of our community, and Golden Encore exemplifies this commitment. By bringing performances directly to senior communities, the program eliminates barriers to access and provides enriching experiences for those who may find it difficult to attend traditional theater settings.
