Meeting Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, is an experience many home cooks dream of. I was lucky enough to meet her during her book tour in my hometown, and it was absolutely worth the 5 1/2 hour wait! My friend Molly and I were thrilled to have our cookbooks signed and witness her warm and genuine personality firsthand. Even Marlboro Man, her husband, charmed the crowd and signed cookbooks! Meeting Ree inspired me to finally try her famous French Silk Pie recipe, a dessert my husband Joel adores.
Joel is a huge fan of French Silk Pie, and we usually get one from a local restaurant for special occasions. But this year, I wanted to try making it at home, especially before Thanksgiving. Knowing Pioneer Woman’s recipes are always reliable and delicious, I knew her French Silk Pie recipe would be a winner. And I was right! Even as someone who isn’t a huge chocolate fan, I was completely hooked. This pie is intensely chocolatey, rich, and incredibly satisfying.
What makes this French Silk Pie so special is the perfect balance of flavors. The salted butter adds a delightful saltiness that cuts through the richness of the chocolate, creating that irresistible sweet and salty combination that everyone loves. The texture is divine – thick, dense, and melt-in-your-mouth silky smooth.
This Pioneer Woman French Silk Pie recipe is definitely going to be a holiday staple in our home, and I highly recommend you make it a part of your Thanksgiving or Christmas celebrations too. It’s surprisingly easy to make and guaranteed to impress your family and friends.
Pioneer Woman French Silk Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
- 1 cup salted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 1 pre-baked pie shell
- Whipped cream, for topping
- Chocolate shavings, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Melt the Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsweetened baking chocolate in short intervals (about 45 seconds on high), stirring in between until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 1-2 minutes.
- Incorporate Chocolate and Vanilla: Once the melted chocolate has cooled slightly, slowly drizzle it into the butter and sugar mixture. Add the vanilla extract. Beat thoroughly until everything is well combined.
- Add Eggs Gradually: With the mixer on medium speed, add the eggs one at a time, incorporating each egg fully before adding the next. Allow about 5 minutes of mixing time between each egg addition. This step is crucial for the silky texture.
- Chill the Pie: Pour the French silk pie filling into the pre-baked pie shell and smooth the top. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably longer, to allow the pie to set completely.
- Serve and Enjoy: Before serving, top the pie generously with homemade whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired. Slice and enjoy this decadent Pioneer Woman French Silk Pie!
