Discovering the Hidden Gem of Pioneer Park in Anaheim

Nestled in East Anaheim, just south of Sunkist Elementary School, Pioneer Park stands out as a truly special playground. From the moment you approach the play structures, it’s clear you’ve found something exceptional. My own three-year-old can’t get enough of it, asking to return every day – it’s that captivating! This park, a delightful map discovery, exceeded all expectations with its unique features and engaging play areas.

Finding Your Way to Pioneer Park:

Pioneer Park is conveniently located for East Anaheim residents and those coming off the 57 freeway. To get there, exit the 57 at Lincoln Avenue and head west. Turn right onto Sunkist Street, and then another right onto E. Underhill Avenue. You’ll find the park on your left-hand side. Ample street parking is available directly facing the park on E. Underhill Avenue.

Playtime Highlights at Pioneer Park:

Pioneer Park boasts two incredible play structures that cater to different age groups, separated by an exciting rocky landscape perfect for climbing and exploring.

  • Old West Hotel Play Structure (Toddler Area): The play area designed for younger children is themed like an old west hotel, sparking imaginative play. A charming detail is the inclusion of “getaway horses,” adding to the Wild West theme. A unique and engaging feature is a play panel on the hotel’s side equipped with bells that can be played with musical note mallets – a sensory delight for little ones and promotes musical exploration. This area is perfect for toddlers to safely explore and engage in creative play.

  • Tree House Adventure (Older Kids): For older children, Pioneer Park offers an impressive tree house play structure. This adventurous setup includes a thrilling zip line exit for a fun ride down and a substantial rock bridge connecting different sections of the tree house, encouraging physical activity and balance. Kids will enjoy discovering the hidden raccoon and squirrel figures tucked away under the tree house, adding a touch of whimsy to their play.

Beyond the structured play areas, Pioneer Park features generous open grassy spaces. These areas are ideal for free play, running around, picnics, or simply relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Tree House Structure Caution: Parents of very young children should be mindful of the tree house structure. The rock bridge element requires a certain level of coordination and may not be suitable for toddlers or very small children still developing their motor skills. Supervision is recommended in this area.
