A fatal shooting in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square neighborhood has claimed the life of a man and left a woman injured, marking the city’s first homicide in 2025. The incident occurred overnight, prompting a full investigation by the Seattle Police Department (SPD) who are now appealing to the public for information.
The shooting unfolded around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of South Main Street and 2nd Avenue South, in the heart of Pioneer Square. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 40-year-old man deceased inside a vehicle. Subsequently, police were alerted to a 23-year-old woman at a local hospital, Swedish Hospital, suffering from gunshot wounds. Her condition is currently described as stable but serious. Authorities have not yet disclosed any information regarding the relationship, if any, between the two victims.

Law enforcement officials reported finding a staggering 45 shell casings at the scene, indicating the use of multiple firearms in the Pioneer Square shooting. The circumstances that led to this act of violence remain unclear as the investigation progresses.
Deputy Chief Yvonne Underwood addressed the severity of the incident, stating, “In 2023 we had 74 homicides, last year we had 58, this is our first one of this year.” She further conveyed the department’s condolences, “On behalf of the Seattle Police Department, I want to express my deepest condolences for the families of these victims.”
As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests have been made in connection with the Pioneer Square shooting. The SPD’s investigation is active and ongoing. Deputy Underwood urged public cooperation, “Right now, we don’t have any suspect information and we’re asking the public if they have any additional information to bring that forward.”
