Nestled in the heart of downtown Sequim, Pioneer Memorial Park offers a tranquil 4-acre oasis and clubhouse, meticulously maintained by the dedicated Sequim Prairie Garden Club. Located at 387 East Washington Street, this park is not just a green space; it’s a vibrant community hub and a testament to Sequim’s rich history. Recently, Pioneer Memorial Park achieved Level 1 Arboretum Accreditation, a proud recognition for the Sequim Prairie Garden Club.
This delightful park and its clubhouse serve as an idyllic venue for a variety of occasions. Whether you’re planning meetings, celebratory parties, memorable weddings, intimate family reunions, or even unique art and craft exhibitions, Pioneer Memorial Park provides a versatile and charming setting. The clubhouse, accommodating up to 90 guests, is thoughtfully equipped with tables, chairs, a kitchen featuring two ranges, a restaurant-grade coffee maker, and a refrigerator, ensuring your event is well-catered. Accessibility is a priority, with step-free access and ADA-compliant bathrooms, making it welcoming for all visitors.
Pioneer Memorial Park holds the distinction of being Sequim’s first park, established in 1951 through the tireless efforts of the Sequim Prairie Garden Club, supported by various service groups and community volunteers. The park’s arboretum is a notable feature, showcasing a significant stand of Garry oaks alongside diverse plantings of heritage rhododendrons, ornamental shrubs, and vibrant perennials. As you explore the grounds, you’ll find inviting picnic tables and garden benches scattered throughout, many generously donated by pioneer families, adding to the park’s historical ambiance. Adding to its historical significance, Pioneer Memorial Park is also home to an authentic 1893 hand-hewn log cabin, offering a glimpse into Sequim’s past. Interestingly, the park’s origins trace back to Sequim’s first cemetery. Due to unfortunate flooding, the cemetery was abandoned, but poignant headstones remain, marking the final resting places of pioneers whose families could not be located for relocation.
The Sequim Prairie Garden Club’s commitment ensures the park’s continued beauty and accessibility. They sustain Pioneer Memorial Park through clubhouse rentals, engaging fundraising activities, and dedicated member work parties. The club also hosts monthly meetings that offer enriching educational programs and a welcoming social environment for gardening enthusiasts.
