Dr. Dick Maier, the heart and soul of Pioneer Veterinary Clinic, brings decades of experience and a deep-rooted connection to the Moses Lake community. Growing up in Yakima, Washington, Dr. Maier’s passion for animals and the Pacific Northwest led him to Washington State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry in 1979, followed by a Masters degree in Animal Science in 1987, and finally, his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991.
Before establishing Pioneer Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Maier practiced as a mixed animal veterinarian in Montana. He returned to Eastern Washington in 1992 and in January 1994, his vision of providing exceptional veterinary care to Moses Lake became a reality with the opening of Pioneer Veterinary Clinic. His commitment to the community is further solidified by the clinic’s current, state-of-the-art location, built in the fall of 1999.
Beyond his professional dedication, Dr. Maier is a family man, married with three grown sons and blessed with two grandsons and three granddaughters. When he’s not at the clinic, you can find him enjoying his garden or pursuing his love for hunting with his sons. Dr. Courtney Redding brings a diverse background and a passion for patient care to Pioneer Veterinary Clinic. Her journey in veterinary medicine began after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland in 1990. Relocating to the Pacific Northwest, she completed prerequisite courses at Olympic College and the University of Washington before achieving both her Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Washington State University in 1998.
Dr. Redding honed her skills at Bethel Animal Hospital in Port Orchard, Washington, before joining Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in January 2001. Her dedication to her patients is matched by her commitment to her family. Currently working part-time to balance her professional and family life, Dr. Redding cherishes time with her two daughters. Her personal interests include fitness, obstacle course races, and enjoying the company of her three Springer Spaniels. Dr. Brown then pursued her passion for veterinary medicine at Washington State University, obtaining both her Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science and Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Brown has been a dedicated veterinarian at Pioneer Veterinary Clinic since 2008. Her broad expertise extends to dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and pocket pets, reflecting the clinic’s commitment to comprehensive animal care. For Dr. Brown, the most rewarding aspect of her profession is enhancing the health and quality of life for her patients.
Family is central to Dr. Brown’s life. She is married to Logan and they have two children. Their animal family includes two energetic Boston Terriers, Kirby and Zoe, and a relaxed cat named Nala. In her leisure time, Dr. Brown enjoys travel, reading, and, most importantly, spending quality time with her family. Dr. Kryshelle Ballard, originally from Salmon, Idaho, brings a specialized interest in surgery and emergency care to Pioneer Veterinary Clinic. She earned her Bachelor’s in Animal and Veterinary Science from the University of Idaho in 2015. Continuing her veterinary education, she graduated from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in March 2020 and joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in July of the same year.
Dr. Ballard’s passion lies in small animal surgery and emergency services, ensuring Pioneer Vet Clinic is equipped to handle a wide range of medical needs. She is dedicated to helping pets in Moses Lake live healthier, happier lives through her expertise and caring approach.
Dr. Ballard is married to Cameron, and together they are raising a son and welcomed a baby girl in May 2020. Their family also includes two dogs, Apollo, a Boxer, and Alannah, a Collie. Melissa Garcia, a long-term member of the Pioneer Veterinary Clinic family, was raised in Spokane Valley, Washington, before moving to Moses Lake. She joined the clinic in 1994 as a receptionist/veterinary assistant, demonstrating her early commitment to animal care. To further her expertise, Melissa attended Pierce College, graduating in 1997 with an Associate of Veterinary Technology degree. She then returned to Pioneer Veterinary Clinic as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, bringing enhanced skills and knowledge to her role.
Melissa shares her life with two chocolate Labrador Retrievers, Sage and Lily. With her stepdaughters and son now grown, she and her husband enjoy outdoor adventures, including hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking with their beloved dogs. Adrienne Hernandez is a true Moses Lake local, having been born and raised in the community. Her journey with Pioneer Veterinary Clinic began during her senior year at Moses Lake High School through a work-based learning program. After graduating in 2007, she became a veterinary assistant during the summer, continuing to work while attending Big Bend Community College and later Yakima Valley Community College’s Veterinary Technology program. Adrienne earned her Associate of Veterinary Technology degree from YVCC in June 2010 and returned to Pioneer Veterinary Clinic as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
After nine years in a technician role, Adrienne transitioned to Inventory Management/Admin, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to the clinic’s overall success. While her focus has shifted from direct animal care, she recognizes her current role as essential to the veterinary team.
Adrienne married her husband, Macario, in 2015 and shares her home with two unique cats: Kena, a three-legged calico, and Astro, a one-eyed black cat. Her personal interests include traveling, hiking, movies, board games, and spending time with loved ones. Adrienne’s diverse experience and organizational skills are vital to the efficient functioning of Pioneer Vet Clinic.

Hannah McNabb, originally from Enumclaw, Washington, moved to Moses Lake in 2010 after earning her Associate in Arts degree from Green River Community College. She joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in July 2012 as a veterinary assistant, driven by her goal to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Hannah achieved her goal through Penn Foster and successfully passed the national exam in 2019, earning her LVT licensure.
Hannah and her husband are raising two sons, Quinton and Hank. Their active family life extends to their animal companions, including Labrador Retrievers Remi and Ruger, a cat named Oliver, horses Henry, Jack, and Eastwood, goats Bert and Ernie, chickens, and a growing cattle herd. They enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, trail riding, and hunting. Alex Garza, who grew up in Bellingham, WA, graduated from Ferndale High School in 2011. She pursued her passion for animal science at Washington State University, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in 2015. After entering the veterinary field in 2016, Alex furthered her education at Bellingham Tech, graduating with a Veterinary Technology degree in 2019. She joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic as a Licensed Veterinary Technician in March 2019.
Alex married her husband in August 2020 and their home is a haven for rescued animals. They share their lives with four cats: Maia and Misty (Siamese flame points), Thor (a one-eyed black domestic shorthair), and Fury (a one-eyed polydactyl orange tabby), and one dog, Bucky (a silver lab). In her spare time, Alex enjoys spending time with family and friends, movies, camping, fishing, cooking, knitting, puzzles, and all things Disney and the TV show FRIENDS. Jennifer’s upbringing included raising rabbits and sheep, fostering an early connection with animal care. She joined the Pioneer Veterinary Clinic team in March 2001 and has been instrumental in its growth and success.
Currently residing in Moses Lake with her fiancé Brad, Jennifer has two grown children and three grandchildren. Together, they manage a mini-farm with an array of animals, including chihuahuas, mixed breed dogs, an English Mastiff, mini horses, dwarf goats, and numerous chickens. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys sewing, crafting, watching Criminal Minds, and spending time with family and friends. Gail Brightbill is a lifelong resident of Moses Lake, bringing deep community knowledge to her role as Business Manager at Pioneer Veterinary Clinic. She earned her AA degree from Big Bend Community College in 1995 and is a graduate of AAHA and Cedar Valley College Veterinary Technology DE program, demonstrating her commitment to professional development in veterinary management. Gail joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in August 1997 as a receptionist and then became a Certified Veterinary Assistant. Her career path led her to Business Manager, where she applies her extensive experience to clinic administration.
Gail shares her life with her husband John and a lively pack of Pembroke Welsh Corgis: Pinoko, Piper, and Zero, along with Rudders, a special needs corgi mix, and two three-legged tabby cats, Jet and Chandelle. She actively participates in conformation, obedience, rally, agility, herding, coursing, and trick dog competitions with her corgis. Connor Taylor, born in Moses Lake, recently returned to his hometown to be closer to family and embark on a new chapter. He joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in March 2021, bringing his enthusiasm and customer service skills to the team. While Connor doesn’t currently have pets of his own, he enjoys spending time with his roommate’s dog, Blitz, a German Shepherd/Doberman mix.

Cheyenne Wiberg
Cheyenne Wiberg, another Moses Lake native, graduated from Moses Lake Christian Academy in 2016. Coming from a large family, she grew up with a variety of pets, fostering her love for animals from a young age. Cheyenne joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic as a receptionist in July 2023, bringing her warm personality and local connection to the clinic.
Cheyenne shares her home with two dogs, Skye-berry (a husky mix) and Peaches (a chihuahua mix). Her hobbies include reading, swimming, off-roading, traveling, karaoke, music, art, and writing.
