The Pioneer Woman Mercantile Reviews: Is It Worth the Trip?

As a devoted fan of The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, for years, the opening of The Pioneer Woman Mercantile was a momentous occasion. Like many enthusiasts, I felt an irresistible pull to experience this brick-and-mortar extension of Ree’s charming world. My journey to Pawhuska, Oklahoma, home of the Mercantile, was fueled by high expectations and a craving for a taste of Ree’s signature hospitality and style. Were these expectations met? This review dives into my personal experience at The Pioneer Woman Mercantile, offering insights for those planning their own pilgrimage.

The Mercantile itself is ingeniously designed as a multifaceted space. It’s a bakery brimming with tempting treats, a bustling restaurant serving hearty meals, a quick-stop grab-and-go for those on the move, a comforting coffee shop for caffeine fixes, and a retail haven for home goods and apparel. Describing it as Disneyland for Pioneer Woman aficionados in the heart of Oklahoma’s cattle country wouldn’t be an exaggeration. Despite being a considerable drive from Denver, the allure was too strong to resist.

Arriving around 11 AM, accompanied by my mom after an overnight stay nearby, the restaurant line immediately signaled the Mercantile’s popularity. Faced with an hour-plus wait for a table, we opted for a strategic pivot and explored the interior. Our first mission: the coffee bar. Lattes paired perfectly with a decadent sticky bun and a slice of cornmeal pineapple upside-down cake. The sticky bun deserves special mention – rumored to contain whiskey, it was undeniably the best I’ve ever tasted. Ree Drummond’s culinary genius was evident even in this simple bakery item.

Post-coffee indulgence, we ventured into the retail section. A charming cow-printed pillow caught my eye, and I couldn’t resist purchasing a comfortable and stylish green shirt at a surprisingly reasonable price. Fans of Ree’s cookware line will be pleased to find a wide selection, including her popular Walmart range and some premium items. The store offers a curated collection reflecting Ree’s homey and vibrant aesthetic.

An unexpected highlight of our visit was the opportunity to get directions to The Pioneer Woman’s filming location, the Drummond Ranch. Seizing the chance, we grabbed chicken enchiladas to-go and embarked on a drive deeper into the Oklahoma countryside. The ranch was a scenic journey past wild horses, grazing cattle, and expansive landscapes. Ree’s kitchen at the ranch was even more breathtaking than imagined. Its pantry rivaled the size of a small apartment, featuring dual kitchen islands and sliding doors that opened to panoramic ranch views. It was truly a sight to behold for any fan of the show.

With time to spare before our dinner reservation back at the Mercantile, we explored the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, encountering around 300 bison, and browsed a few other quaint shops in Pawhuska. This added dimension to the trip, showcasing the natural beauty and local charm surrounding the Mercantile.

Returning for dinner, we found the earlier crowds had dissipated. Our dinner spread included spinach artichoke dip, chicken-fried steak, creamy mac and cheese, whiskey-infused carrots, and classic pecan pie. The portions were generous, leaving us happily stuffed and content.

As our Oklahoma visit concluded the next morning, a fortunate GPS route led us back through Pawhuska. Another stop at the Mercantile was inevitable. This time, we opted for cardamom and lavender lattes and more pastries for the road, ensuring our Pioneer Woman experience lingered a little longer.
