Ongoing Project: Preserving History – The Logging Locomotive No. 14

Be a part of history preservation at the Alabama Pioneer Museum! We are currently fundraising to restore our authentic 1881 logging locomotive, a significant piece of Alabama’s timber industry past. This historic train, donated in 1992 by Earl M. McGowin, was once operated by Elonzo Huble Williams, father of the legendary Hank Williams Sr., while he worked for the W. T. Smith Lumber Company in Chapman, Alabama.

Locomotive No. 14 is in need of cleaning, repairs, and repainting to ensure its longevity for future generations visiting the Alabama Pioneer Museum. You can contribute to this vital restoration project by sending a check marked “Train Fundraiser 2023” to Pioneer-Museum of Alabama, 248 US Hwy 231 N, Troy, AL, 36081. Even better, visit the museum and make your donation in person while exploring our exhibits!
