It’s been a while since our last RV adventure update, but we recently encountered a head-scratching issue with our Pioneer BH270 that I wanted to share. We took a trip up to Michigan last weekend, set up camp, and even brought a spare electric fridge to ensure we had ample cooling. After getting everything connected and seemingly ready to go, I did my usual checks to make sure everything was secure – especially after entrusting some tasks to my detail-challenged teenage son!
Power lines? Check. Water lines? Check. Moving on to the gas system, I verified the propane tank was open and the valve was correctly aligned. I even checked the furnace and water heater to ensure everything was functioning as expected before heading back outside. That’s when I noticed something peculiar near the fridge area, close to the tire – a gas connection line with an unlabeled valve. “Huh,” I thought, “don’t remember seeing that before.” It wasn’t immediately obvious, but the valve was open.
So, we decided to close the valve. On a whim, I went back inside to see if the fridge would kick on. Lo and behold, after about five minutes, it started working!
To confirm my suspicion that this mystery valve was the culprit behind our fridge issues, I reopened it. Sure enough, the fridge promptly turned off.
Now, the confusing part is the valve’s placement. It appears to be positioned after the fridge connection point. However, the ‘T’ fitting is actually located before the fridge in the gas line. This means the fridge is effectively at the end of the line. Therefore, when we opened that mystery valve, it diverted the gas supply, preventing it from reaching the fridge.
My best guess is that this valve is intended for an external gas appliance, perhaps a grill or something similar for outdoor cooking. Has anyone else with a Pioneer BH270 encountered a similar gas valve setup? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
