Sebastian Suarez (BS ’22) exemplifies proactive advocacy for social change within the business realm, a trait that positions him as a modern pioneer in his field. His journey began when he was drawn to NYU Stern’s esteemed sustainable business program and its comprehensive social impact curriculum. For Suarez, the appeal was clear: “Having the opportunity to receive an education that had an equal focus on soft skills and contemporary issues was intriguing to me,” highlighting his forward-thinking approach to business education.
Even before Stern, Suarez was establishing himself as a leader. During his high school years, he served as Florida’s statewide chair of Students Working Against Tobacco. In this role, he honed his skills in mobilizing individuals across a large and diverse state, driving significant impact within communities. This experience shaped his core belief: “I believe that with a strong message to assist others in finding their passions, I can develop a more productive business environment that emphasizes human capital and understands people’s role in their community.” This vision reflects a pioneering spirit, aiming to reshape business culture with a focus on human-centric values.
His commitment to global perspectives led him to spend a semester at Copenhagen Business School through Stern’s International Business Exchange Program (IBEX). Back at NYU’s Washington Square campus, Suarez was deeply involved in student life. He actively contributed to the Student Council and served as both an orientation leader and a Cohort Leadership Program Guide. In these roles, he assisted incoming students, helping them navigate the complexities of Stern, NYU, and the vibrant landscape of New York City. This dedication to mentorship and community building further underscores his leadership qualities.
The transformative Breakthrough Scholarship was pivotal in enabling Sebastian to attend Stern. He acknowledges its profound impact: “It fundamentally changed my college experience. To me, the Breakthrough Program is synonymous with opportunity and provides the necessary resources to succeed at NYU and in the business world.” This opportunity has propelled him towards a promising future.
Recently, Sebastian accepted a full-time consulting position in EY’s People Advisory Services, where he previously interned. He expresses genuine enthusiasm for this career move: “It feels like the right match for me, as my values align with those of the practice and I get to engage directly in cultural and change issues, which I find to be my strong suit.” This role allows him to directly address cultural and organizational change, areas where he aims to be a pioneer. Looking beyond his immediate career aspirations, Suarez is committed to long-term community contribution: “Aside from my career, I hope that I can continue to give back to the communities that have offered me the chance to succeed.” Sebastian Suarez is not just entering the business world; he is poised to be a pioneer, driving social change and embodying the values of a new generation of business leaders.
