The Pioneer Center For Performing Arts is thrilled to announce open bookings for 2025 performances of Golden Encore, an innovative outreach program designed to enrich the lives of senior citizens through the power of performing arts.
Golden Encore: Enhancing Senior Well-being Through Arts Engagement
Golden Encore is a groundbreaking performance outreach initiative from the Pioneer Center, meticulously crafted to cater to senior citizens. It seamlessly blends captivating entertainment with opportunities for lifelong learning, bringing professional performing artists directly to seniors within their familiar environments. This includes senior centers, assisted living facilities, residential communities, memory care facilities, and public libraries, ensuring accessibility and comfort for all participants.
This program was born from a deep understanding of the challenges faced by seniors in our community. The “Seniors Quality of Life Survey” conducted in March 2022 by HELLO Project, Truckee Meadows Tomorrow, and UNR, revealed concerning statistics: a staggering 76.5% of seniors reported feeling isolated, 77.1% felt excluded, and 76.5% experienced barriers to community involvement. Alarmingly, the suicide rate among seniors in Washoe County is double the national average. These findings, coupled with the well-documented health benefits of arts engagement, galvanized the Pioneer Center team to develop Golden Encore as a proactive solution to improve the quality of life for seniors in our region.
The artists selected for the Golden Encore program roster are carefully chosen to deliver performances that resonate with senior audiences. Programs are rich in music, movement, historical insights, and nostalgic journeys down memory lane. Each Golden Encore performance is thoughtfully designed, incorporating expert-endorsed elements proven to positively impact both the mental and physical health of seniors, backed by research and specialized group training for the artists.
Golden Encore’s impactful outreach is generously supported by an award from the Washoe County Community Reinvestment Grant Program, highlighting the community’s commitment to senior well-being.
