The Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce its upcoming events, offering a diverse range of performances designed to enrich and entertain our community. Among these exciting programs is Golden Encore, a unique outreach initiative specifically created for senior citizens. Golden Encore brings the magic of performing arts directly to seniors in Reno and Washoe County, fostering lifelong learning and combating social isolation through engaging and uplifting artistic experiences.
Addressing Senior Isolation Through Performing Arts
Recognizing the critical issue of social isolation among seniors, the Pioneer Center developed Golden Encore to make a tangible difference in the lives of older adults in our region. A revealing study, the “Seniors Quality of Life Survey,” highlighted that a significant majority of local seniors experience feelings of isolation and exclusion. In response to these findings and understanding the profound health benefits of arts engagement, the Pioneer Center conceived Golden Encore. This program is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors by providing access to enriching artistic performances directly within their communities.
The Golden Encore Program: Bringing Art to Seniors
Golden Encore programs feature a talented roster of professional performing artists who deliver captivating performances tailored to senior audiences. These programs are thoughtfully designed to include music, movement, historical narratives, and nostalgic journeys through memory lane. Each Golden Encore performance incorporates elements recognized by experts to positively impact the mental and physical well-being of seniors. Thanks to the generous support from the Washoe County Community Reinvestment Grant Program, Golden Encore is able to bring these vital artistic experiences to senior centers, assisted living facilities, libraries, and more, completely free of charge.
