Barrister’s Bingo Returns to the Iconic Pioneer Club Lake Charles: A Night of Fun for a Cause

Barrister’s Bingo is back and ready to bring a unique blend of entertainment and philanthropy to Lake Charles. Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 5th, for a special fundraising event at the legendary Pioneer Club. This year, ServPro of Lake Charles and the Baggett McCall Law Firm proudly sponsor this exciting evening, all in support of the Southwest Louisiana (SWLA) Law Center’s vital mission.

“We’re taking the Pioneer Club’s beloved family bingo night and amplifying it,” explains Mark Judson, the Executive Director of the SWLA Law Center. Recalling the event’s successful debut in 2018, Judson emphasizes the enthusiastic response, “The first event in 2018 was a super blast, and the following year was completely sold out.” Anticipation is high for this year’s return of Barrister’s Bingo at the Pioneer Club Lake Charles, promising an unforgettable night for attendees.

Exciting Prizes and Unique Experiences Await

What makes Barrister’s Bingo at the Pioneer Club Lake Charles so special? It’s the incredible prizes, curated to offer a diverse range of appealing rewards. Imagine winning a collection of 15 fine wines, or perhaps a culinary journey through Southwest Louisiana with 15 restaurant gift cards. Beyond these, two exceptional prizes are set to truly captivate attendees.

One of these unique prizes, aptly named “A Different Perspective,” offers an exclusive aerial video and image package courtesy of Dr. Craig Crawford. Dr. Crawford, an accomplished orthodontist and skilled drone pilot, will provide the winner with personalized drone footage and an aerial image of their chosen subject (within flight restrictions), perfect for capturing property overviews or creating a unique piece of art.

The second standout prize is an exhilarating one-hour aerial tour of the scenic Cameron and Calcasieu parishes, provided by Southland Flyers. This is a chance to experience the beauty of the Louisiana landscape from a breathtaking vantage point.

And for the grand prize? An exclusive evening of musical entertainment with Lake Charles Attorney Phillip DeVilbiss. As Judson describes, “He’s a local attorney and an accomplished solo guitarist. Imagine winning a private performance by Phillip DeVilbiss in your home, at a party, or any special occasion.”

The evening at Barrister’s Bingo at Pioneer Club Lake Charles is designed to be more than just a fundraiser; it’s an experience. Attendees can look forward to a “robust happy hour” to kick off the festivities, followed by the Pioneer Club’s renowned fried chicken buffet. Judson enthusiastically highlights the venue itself, stating, “The Pioneer Club, that view, that food, that service – it’s iconic.” The Pioneer Club Lake Charles provides the perfect backdrop for a sophisticated yet relaxed evening.

Supporting Access to Justice through SWLA Law Center

The heart of Barrister’s Bingo is its purpose: to support the SWLA Law Center. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit law firm plays a critical role in the community by providing essential legal services. Mark Judson emphasizes the Law Center’s mission: “The mission of the SWLA Law Center is to provide access to justice to the under-resourced of SWLA.”

Unlike pro bono services, the SWLA Law Center operates on a “low bono” model, charging clients on a sliding scale based on their financial circumstances. They focus on crucial civil cases where individuals often need legal assistance but struggle to afford it upfront. These cases include domestic violence issues, child custody and support, divorce, adoptions, successions, wills, real estate disputes, and more. The Law Center does not handle criminal cases or contingency-based cases like personal injury or bankruptcy.

Judson articulates the importance of their work within the justice system: “Our civil justice system, while sometimes criticized, remains the best in the world. It functions optimally when both sides have equitable resources. However, when there’s a significant imbalance, justice can be compromised. The Law Center exists to level the playing field for those who are under-resourced in our community.”
