The Auburn School District is embarking on an exciting new chapter for education in the region with the construction of the state-of-the-art Pioneer Elementary School in Auburn, Washington. This significant project, awarded to the renowned Seattle-based construction firm Skanska USA, is set to replace the existing 61-year-old Pioneer Elementary building, ushering in a modern era of learning for Auburn students.
The new Pioneer Elementary School, designed to enhance the educational experience, will be a spacious 74,000-square-foot facility capable of accommodating 650 students from kindergarten through fifth grade. It will feature a comprehensive range of amenities including general and specialized classrooms tailored to diverse learning needs, efficient administration offices, a well-equipped gymnasium for physical activities, a resource-rich library, and a modern kitchen. The expansive 11-acre site will also boast a playground, playfields for outdoor recreation, convenient student pick-up and drop-off zones, dedicated bus loading areas, ample parking for staff and visitors, and designated space for future portable classrooms to adapt to evolving needs.
This vital project is made possible by the “Building for Learning” bond, approved by Auburn voters in 2016. This bond initiative is a testament to the community’s commitment to investing in education, aiming to rebuild or construct eight schools within eight years in the Auburn School District. Skanska USA’s involvement extends beyond Pioneer Elementary, as they are also currently finalizing the replacement of Dick Scobee Elementary School, showcasing their ongoing partnership and expertise in delivering high-quality educational facilities for Auburn.
