I recently purchased a Pioneer Elite VSX-43 receiver online, advertised as new and unopened. Upon receiving it about four months ago, I briefly tested it, and the speakers seemed to work fine. Satisfied, I turned it off and stored it away due to an upcoming move.
Fast forward four months, and I finally unpacked my Pioneer Elite VSX-43, eager to set it up. Initially, I attempted to configure it without the On-Screen Display (OSD), as I didn’t have a TV in the room at the time. After struggling to get sound, I brought in an HDTV to utilize the OSD, only to discover there was no video output. The HDMI indicator light was blinking, and the blue light on the HDMI circle icon was off.
After researching various VSX-1*** forum posts, I managed to reset the receiver, and all the lights returned to normal. Thinking the Pioneer Elite VSX-43 was functioning correctly, I reconnected my devices. However, the issue persisted – no sound. HDMI seemed to be working, but still, no audio from the tuner, and no signal from HDMI sources. The HDMI light continued to blink, and the blue circle light remained off.
I checked the error menu on the Pioneer Elite VSX-43, but there were no error codes displayed. I’ve attempted multiple resets, both with and without devices connected, but nothing has resolved the problem. I even tried unplugging the unit, grounding it, and then performing the power/standby button reset while plugging it back in, which initially seemed to work in getting the HDMI to respond – or so I thought.
My HDMI cables are confirmed to be working correctly with other devices, so that’s not the source of the problem. It’s disheartening to think that the Pioneer Elite VSX-43 might have failed after only being powered on once, especially considering these receivers seem to have reported issues after a year of use. Frankly, if this is representative of Pioneer’s receiver quality, purchasing another Pioneer product is not something I am inclined to do, especially with the cost of replacing receivers so frequently.
If anyone has suggestions or directions to troubleshoot this Pioneer Elite VSX-43, I would greatly appreciate any helpful advice. Additionally, if anyone knows where to find a service manual for this specific model or series, that information would be incredibly helpful. Thank you in advance for any assistance.
