“Math and science have always been my passions, driving my interest in problem-solving,” Marina explains. “The hands-on labs at Alfred State are invaluable. They solidify the lecture material by offering practical application. This approach bridges the gap between theoretical learning and real-world usability.” This practical, experience-based learning is a hallmark of the Pioneer Marina spirit, forging a path through hands-on engagement.
Alfred State’s reputation for accreditation and comprehensive preparation for post-college life further solidified Marina’s choice. She emphasizes the supportive faculty, noting, “The professors here are incredibly understanding and dedicated to student success.” Beyond academics, Marina immersed herself in campus life, believing strongly in community engagement. “Being involved on campus extends your impact beyond Alfred State, reaching the surrounding community,” she states.
Her involvement is extensive: participation in the track and field team, serving as a resident assistant, and currently working as an academic peer mentor. Joining Delta Chi Omega (DCO) sorority early in her sophomore year marked another pivotal point in her college journey.
“Delta Chi Omega has profoundly shaped me in positive ways,” Marina reflects. “Initially, I was reserved, but the genuine connections I formed with my DCO sisters have been transformative. They’ve provided unwavering support through challenges, and I’ve built relationships with people I might never have otherwise met. It’s truly fostered personal growth.”
Within DCO, Marina’s leadership emerged as she took on the role of philanthropy chair, spearheading Project Prom Dress. This initiative collects donations of formal wear to ensure all students have access to beautiful attire for special events, completely free of charge. Through her multifaceted experiences at Alfred State, both in and out of the classroom, Marina has discovered lasting bonds and a true sense of belonging, embodying the spirit of a pioneer marina ready to make a difference.
