Buying Cross-Country Ski Equipment at the Swap
Looking to upgrade your gear or outfit yourself for the first time? The Pioneer Midwest Ski Swap offers an extensive selection of both used and new cross-country ski equipment. Pioneer Midwest is bringing in extra staff and knowledgeable ski experts to this event. This ensures everyone receives personalized assistance in fitting skis, boots, and other essential equipment.
Key Information for High School and Middle School Skiers
For our younger athletes and their families, here’s some vital information to make your ski swap experience successful:
- Classic Ski Preferences: Be aware that coaches often prefer waxable or skin skis for classic skiing techniques.
- Sizing is Crucial: Come prepared with skier weight, height, and shoe size to ensure the best fit.
- Binding Compatibility: Some used skis might have older SNS bindings, which are not compatible with current NNN boot systems. It’s important to note that no SNS boots will be available at this year’s swap. However, skis with SNS bindings can be adapted to work with modern NNN/Prolink/Turnamic systems.
Advice for New and Touring Skiers
Stepping into cross-country skiing or looking to explore touring options? Consider these points:
- Intended Ski Use: Think about where you’ll primarily be skiing – groomed trails, frozen lakes, or off-trail adventures.
- Classic Ski Type Preference: Decide if waxable, skin, or fishscale classic skis best suit your needs and experience level.
- Explore Ski Packages: Visit the Pioneer Midwest website to learn more about ski packages and getting started in cross-country skiing.
Selling Your Ski Equipment at the Pioneer Midwest Swap
Turn your gently used ski gear into cash or store credit! Pioneer Midwest makes it easy to sell your equipment at the annual swap.
Equipment Drop-Off Details
Equipment drop-off starts on October 28th and can be done on weekdays during regular store hours. To streamline the process, please bring your items with a completed item drop-off form. You can fill out the form digitally before printing it to save time at drop-off.
To avoid longer wait times, especially with the busy season, weekday drop-off is highly encouraged. If weekend drop-off is your only option, your patience is appreciated!
What Kind of Equipment is Accepted?
Pioneer Midwest is committed to offering quality equipment to new and experienced skiers alike. They are accepting newer cross-country skis, boots, poles, and related gear that meets certain standards:
- Skis: Skate, classic, and touring skis with modern SNS or NNN bindings. Backcountry skis are not accepted.
- Boots: NNN/Prolink skate, classic, and combi boots. SNS boots will not be accepted.
- Poles: Composite and carbon poles with hand straps are welcome. Basic loop strap poles typically don’t resell well.
- Bindings: Loose NNN/Prolink/Turnamic bindings can be sold. SNS bindings are not accepted for sale separately.
- Clothing: Please note that used clothing is no longer being accepted at the Ski Swap.
- Other Items: Rollerskis, wax, wax tools, and ski bags are accepted.
- Not Accepted: Alpine or snowboard equipment.
Pricing Your Used Ski Gear
Not sure how to price your items? Here’s a general guideline:
- One-Year-Old Equipment (Good Condition): Aim for about 50% of the original purchase price.
- Two-Year-Old or Older Equipment (Good Condition): Price around 30-40% of the original price.
Pioneer Midwest staff can also assist you in determining fair prices for your equipment when you drop it off.
Service Fees for Sellers
When your equipment sells, a service fee will apply:
- In-Store Credit Payout: A 5% service fee is applied. Credit will be deposited into your store account on Monday, November 11th.
- Check Payout: A 15% service fee is applied. Checks will be mailed out after the swap.
Picking Up Unsold Items
After the ski swap concludes, you’ll receive an email notification if you have any unsold items. It’s crucial to pick up unsold items by December 1st before 3:00 PM. Any items left after this deadline will be donated.
Important Notice: To ensure broad access to equipment, Pioneer Midwest is limiting used ski purchases to 4 pairs per person.
