Ongoing Project: Support the Historic Locomotive Restoration

Be a part of preserving history by contributing to the restoration of the authentic 1881 logging locomotive, prominently displayed on the grounds of the Pioneer Museum of Alabama. This historic train, known as Number 14, was generously donated to the museum in 1992 by Earl M. McGowin. Adding to its historical significance, Elonzo Huble Williams, the father of music legend Hank Williams Sr., served as an engineer on this very locomotive for the W. T. Smith Lumber Company in Chapman, Alabama.

Currently, Number 14 is in need of dedicated care to ensure its longevity. The restoration project includes thorough cleaning, essential repairs, and a fresh coat of paint to protect and revitalize this remarkable piece of Alabama’s logging history. Your donations can play a crucial role in this preservation effort.

To contribute to the “Train Fundraiser 2023,” please send a check to Pioneer-Museum of Alabama, 248 US Hwy 231 N, Troy, AL, 36081, with the notation “Train Fundraiser 2023.” Alternatively, we warmly invite you to visit the Pioneer Museum of Alabama in person and make your donation while exploring the rich exhibits and grounds.
