A Season of Thrills and Laughter Awaits

The 2025 season at Pioneer Playhouse Kentucky boasts a fantastic lineup, promising something for every theatre lover. From side-splitting comedies to intriguing mysteries, prepare to be entertained from June to August.

June 6 – June 28: The Game’s Afoot – A Sherlock Holmes Mystery

Kick off the summer season with a thrilling whodunit! “The Game’s Afoot” by Ken Ludwig transports you to 1936, where Broadway star William Gillette, famed for his Sherlock Holmes portrayal, hosts a weekend gathering that takes a deadly turn. When a guest is murdered, Gillette must step into his Holmes persona to solve the crime in a mansion full of secrets and mirrors. Winner of the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allen Poe Award for Best Play, this production guarantees a rollercoaster of suspense and comedic moments.

July 1 – July 19: Walking Across Egypt – A Southern Comedy

Based on the beloved book by Clyde Edgerton and adapted by Catherine Bush, “Walking Across Egypt” brings Southern charm and humor to the Pioneer Playhouse Kentucky stage. Meet Mattie Rigsbee, a kind-hearted woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when she attempts to help a stray dog. This sets off a chain of hilarious events involving car theft, prison escapes, and a juvenile delinquent named Wesley. Armed with her faith and famous cornbread, Mattie navigates the chaos with unwavering optimism in this uplifting comedy.

Pioneer Playhouse Kentucky is proud to present an original play by local authors Jennifer Goff and Brian Scruggs! “Not From Around Here” is a zany and delightful new comedy set in 1988. The Smiths and Joneses are the perfect neighbors, sharing everything—except maybe that lemon square recipe. But their idyllic suburban life is hilariously disrupted when the Joneses reveal some truly out-of-this-world news. How do you tell your best friends (and potential in-laws) you’re moving a zillion light years away? This play promises fresh laughs and unexpected twists.

Conclude the season with a rockin’ tribute to music legends! “Good Rockin’ Tonight!” celebrates Elvis Presley and the Queen of Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson.
