Located six miles south of Ottumwa, Iowa, Pioneer Ridge spans 995 acres of rolling topography. The area is characterized by mature oak and hickory timber, interspersed with open grass ridge tops. Ongoing conservation efforts are transforming non-native pasture grasses into vibrant native prairie, and restoring oak savanna plant communities, enhancing the ecological diversity of Pioneer Ridge.
At the heart of Pioneer Ridge is the Nature Center, which plays a crucial role in environmental education. It provides interpretive displays and programming designed to educate both youth and adults about environmental and natural resource management.
