Pioneer RV Resort – 55 Plus Community: Clean Park, but Check-in Process Needs Hospitality Tune-Up

We pulled into Pioneer RV Resort, hoping for a pleasant overnight stay and the flexibility to extend if it suited us. Unfortunately, the initial welcome mat felt more like a hurdle than hospitality, and while the grounds were undeniably clean, the check-in experience left a lasting sour note. If it weren’t for visiting friends in the area and limited campground options, we might have driven right past this 55 plus community RV park.

Cons: The Check-in Gauntlet

Before even arriving at Pioneer RV Resort, the process began with an online application. This application demanded extensive personal information and even photos of our dogs to pre-approve them as “non-aggressive breeds.” An email confirmation was promised upon approval – a slightly unusual step, but we complied.

Upon arrival at the office, things escalated. Presenting my driver’s license and credit card seemed standard, until the office staff informed me they would be held until my husband presented his identification. This was a first for us in all our RV travels. When my husband went in to complete the check-in, the requests became even more demanding: vehicle registration, proof of insurance for both the vehicle and the trailer were all required. We have never encountered such stringent documentation requirements at any RV park before.

Adding to the feeling of being overly scrutinized, we were issued badges. These badges were mandatory for accessing any common areas within the 55 plus community. And, to further emphasize compliance, a charge would be incurred for each badge not returned. In our haste to leave the less-than-welcoming environment, we did indeed forget to return them, adding an unnecessary extra charge to our stay.

Pros: Spotless Grounds and Decent Dog Run

Despite the unwelcoming check-in, we must acknowledge the cleanliness of Pioneer RV Resort. The entire campground was meticulously maintained and appeared very well-kept.

For dog owners, the resort boasts a large dog run. It was indeed spacious and well-maintained. However, my personal experience using it was limited as other “non-aggressive” breeds staying at the park exhibited lunging behavior at my dogs through the fence. Opting for walks instead seemed a more peaceful solution.

The laundry facilities were also a positive aspect. A large laundry room offered numerous machines, and the provision of clotheslines was a thoughtful touch. However, even laundry came with a technological hurdle. Machines were operated via a downloaded app requiring a minimum $25.00 deposit. Fortunately, a kind gentleman we met generously allowed us to use his pre-loaded account, which we reimbursed him for, as he confirmed he wouldn’t use the full amount during his stay.

Conclusion: Hospitality Could Elevate This Park

While Pioneer RV Resort – 55 plus community offers a clean and well-maintained environment with decent amenities like a large dog run and laundry, the overwhelmingly negative check-in experience overshadowed any positives. The excessive documentation requests and seemingly distrustful procedures created an unwelcoming atmosphere. Campgrounds, and particularly those catering to the 55 plus community, should recognize that while policies are necessary, hospitality and a welcoming approach are equally crucial for a positive guest experience. Perhaps a review of their check-in process and a focus on hospitality training for the office staff would significantly enhance the appeal of this otherwise clean RV park.
