Dr. Dick Maier, the founder and owner of Pioneer Veterinary Clinic, is a Washington native with deep roots in animal care. Growing up in Yakima, WA, he pursued his passion for science and nature at Washington State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry in 1979. Driven by a desire to work more directly with animals, Dr. Maier returned to WSU in 1985, obtaining a Master’s degree in Animal Science in 1987 and graduating from the prestigious Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991.

Before establishing Pioneer Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Maier gained valuable experience as a mixed animal veterinarian in Montana. He returned to eastern Washington and in 1992 settled in Moses Lake, fulfilling his vision by opening Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in January 1994. His commitment to providing top-notch veterinary care led to the construction of the clinic’s current, state-of-the-art facility in the fall of 1999.

Beyond his dedication to his patients, Dr. Maier is a family man who cherishes time with his wife, three grown sons, two grandsons, and three granddaughters. When he’s not at the clinic, he enjoys gardening and hunting with his sons, reflecting his lifelong connection to the outdoors and his Washington roots. Dr. Maier’s extensive education and decades of experience make him a trusted veterinarian in Moses Lake.

Dr. Courtney Redding, DVM

Dr. Courtney Redding brings a diverse background and a strong commitment to compassionate veterinary medicine to Pioneer Veterinary Clinic. Originally from Purcellville, Virginia, she spent her high school years in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Her academic journey led her to St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990. Driven by her passion for animal health, Dr. Redding completed prerequisite science courses at Olympic College in Bremerton, WA, and the University of Washington before attending Washington State University. She achieved both a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from WSU in 1998.

Prior to joining Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in January 2001, Dr. Redding honed her skills at Bethel Animal Hospital in Port Orchard, Washington. Her dedication to family is as strong as her dedication to her profession; she currently works part-time to balance her career with raising her two daughters. In her free time, Dr. Redding enjoys family activities, staying active at the gym, participating in obstacle course races, and playing with her three energetic Springer Spaniels. Her broad experience and warm demeanor make her a valued veterinarian at our Moses Lake clinic.

Dr. Jennifer Brown is a true Moses Lake native, born and raised in the community she now serves at Pioneer Veterinary Clinic. She began her higher education at Big Bend Community College, earning an Associate in Arts and Science degree. Dr. Brown’s passion for veterinary medicine led her to Washington State University, where she obtained both her Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Brown has been a dedicated veterinarian at Pioneer Veterinary Clinic since 2008, demonstrating her commitment to the health and well-being of a wide variety of animals. Her expertise extends to dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and pocket pets, making her a versatile and sought-after veterinarian in Moses Lake. She finds immense satisfaction in her work, particularly in helping pets live healthier and higher quality lives.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Brown is married to her husband Logan and is a loving mother to two children. Her family also includes two high-energy Boston Terriers, Kirby and Zoe, and a laid-back cat named Nala. Dr. Brown enjoys traveling, reading, and spending quality time with her family, showcasing her balanced approach to life and her dedication to both her profession and her loved ones.

Dr. Kryshelle Ballard joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in July 2020, bringing a specialized interest in small animal surgery and emergency services to our Moses Lake practice. Growing up in Salmon, Idaho, she developed a love for animals and pursued her academic goals at the University of Idaho, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Animal and Veterinary Science in 2015. Dr. Ballard continued her veterinary education at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in March 2020.

Dr. Ballard’s commitment to providing immediate and effective care is evident in her focus on emergency medicine. She is excited to contribute her skills to helping pets in the Moses Lake area live healthier lives. Dr. Ballard married her husband Cameron in 2019 and is a busy mother to a young son and a baby daughter welcomed in May 2020. Her family also includes two dogs, Apollo, a Boxer, and Alannah, a Collie. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, and fishing with her family, reflecting her adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors.

Melissa Garcia is a long-term member of the Pioneer Veterinary Clinic family, having joined our team in 1994. Originally from Spokane Valley, WA, Melissa moved to Moses Lake and initially served as a receptionist and veterinary assistant at our clinic. Driven to advance her career in veterinary medicine, Melissa pursued a formal education at Pierce College, graduating in 1997 with an Associate of Veterinary Technology degree. She returned to Pioneer Veterinary Clinic as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, bringing her enhanced skills and knowledge to our patients.

Melissa shares her life with two chocolate Labrador Retrievers, Sage and Lily. With her stepdaughters and son now grown, Melissa and her husband enjoy spending their free time outdoors, indulging in activities like hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking with their beloved dogs. Melissa’s long tenure and dedication make her a cornerstone of our veterinary technician team in Moses Lake.

Adrienne Hernandez, LVT

Adrienne Hernandez is another Moses Lake native who has dedicated her career to Pioneer Veterinary Clinic. She began her journey with us as a high school volunteer through the work-based learning program at Moses Lake High School. After graduating in 2007, Adrienne transitioned to a veterinary assistant role during the summers, continuing to work while pursuing her education at Big Bend Community College and Yakima Valley Community College. She graduated from YVCC with an Associate of Veterinary Technology degree in June 2010 and returned to Pioneer Veterinary Clinic as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

After nine years of dedicated service as an LVT, Adrienne transitioned into a new and crucial role as Inventory Management/Admin. While her daily interactions with patients have shifted, her contributions remain essential to the clinic’s efficiency and ability to provide excellent care. Adrienne and her husband Macario, married in 2015, share their home with two special needs cats: Kena, a three-legged calico, and Astro, a one-eyed black cat. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, movies, board games, and spending time with loved ones.

Hannah McNabb, LVT

Hannah McNabb joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in July 2012, bringing her passion for animal care to our Moses Lake team. Originally from Enumclaw, WA, Hannah moved to Moses Lake in 2010 after earning her Associate in Arts degree from Green River Community College. She started as a veterinary assistant with the goal of becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Hannah achieved her goal through dedication and online studies with Penn Foster, earning her LVT license in 2019 after passing the national exam.

Hannah and her husband are raising two sons, Quinton and Hank, born in 2016 and 2019 respectively. Their animal-loving household also includes two Labrador Retrievers, Remi and Ruger, a cat named Oliver, three horses, two goats, chickens, and a growing herd of cattle. The McNabb family enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities, including camping, trail riding, and hunting, reflecting Hannah’s energetic and adventurous spirit.

Alex Garza, LVT, joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in March 2019, bringing her expertise and enthusiasm to our veterinary technician team. Growing up in Bellingham, WA, Alex graduated from Ferndale High School in 2011 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Washington State University in 2015. She began working in the veterinary field in 2016 and furthered her education at Bellingham Tech, graduating with her Veterinary Technology degree in 2019 and becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Alex married her husband in August 2020 and shares her home with a menagerie of pets, including four cats: Maia and Misty (Siamese flame points), Thor (a one-eyed black domestic shorthair), and Fury (a one-eyed polydactyl orange tabby), and a silver lab named Bucky. In her spare time, Alex enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to movies, and enjoying the outdoors through camping and fishing. She also appreciates indoor hobbies like cooking, knitting, puzzles, and anything related to Disney and the TV show FRIENDS.

Sammy Jantz, LVT, became a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in November 2022, after joining our team as a veterinary assistant in November 2019. Originally from Arlington, WA, Sammy has worked in the veterinary field since 2016. She moved to Moses Lake to be closer to family and pursued her Veterinary Technician degree online through Penn Foster College, graduating in 2022 and successfully passing the national exam to earn her LVT license.

Sammy and her husband share their home with a lively group of pets, including four dogs: Bear and Fiona (Pomeranians), Striga (a Heeler mix), and Wendy (an Australian Blue Heeler), and two cats: Lincoln (a tuxedo tabby) and Melon. In her free time, Sammy enjoys exploring new places with her husband and dogs, riding her motorcycle, and playing video games, showcasing her adventurous and playful personality.

Jennifer Gray, Practice Manager at Pioneer Veterinary Clinic, has been an integral part of our team since March 2001. Raised in Stratford, near Moses Lake, and a graduate of Wilson Creek High School, Jennifer’s roots are in the local community. Growing up raising rabbits and sheep instilled in her a lifelong appreciation for animals.

Jennifer lives in Moses Lake with her fiancé Brad and has two grown children and three grandchildren. Together, they manage a “mini farm” with an impressive array of animals, including Chihuahuas, mixed breed dogs, an English Mastiff, mini horses, dwarf goats, and numerous chickens! In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys sewing, crafting, watching Criminal Minds, and spending quality time with her extensive family and friends. Her experience and management skills are invaluable to the smooth running of Pioneer Veterinary Clinic.

Gail Brightbill, Business Manager and Certified Veterinary Assistant, is a lifelong resident of Moses Lake and a valuable asset to Pioneer Veterinary Clinic since August 1997. She earned her AA degree from Big Bend Community College in 1995 and is a graduate of both the AAHA and Cedar Valley College Veterinary Technology DE programs. Gail began her career at our clinic as a receptionist and then became a Certified Veterinary Assistant. She now excels as our Business Manager, where her focus has shifted to the administrative side of veterinary medicine. However, she considers her role integral to supporting the entire veterinary team and ensuring the clinic’s success.

Gail shares her life with her husband John and a lively pack of Pembroke Welsh Corgis: Pinoko, Piper, and Zero, along with Rudders, a special needs Corgi mix, and two three-legged tabby cats, Jet and Chandelle. Gail is passionate about showing her Corgis in Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Agility, Herding, Coursing, and Trick Dog competitions. When not traveling for dog shows, she enjoys sharing photos of her Corgis on Instagram (@corgicabana), attending Seattle Seahawks games, crafting, sewing, and reading.

Connor Taylor joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in March 2021, returning to his hometown of Moses Lake to be closer to family and begin a new chapter. While Connor doesn’t currently have pets of his own, he enjoys caring for his roommate’s dog, Blitz, a German Shepherd/Doberman mix. In his free time, Connor pursues creative and intellectual interests, including writing, gaming, programming, snowboarding, and engaging in discussions about movies and philosophy. His diverse interests and friendly demeanor make him a great asset to our customer service team.

Cheyenne Wiberg – Customer Service Representative

Cheyenne Wiberg, a Moses Lake native and graduate of Moses Lake Christian Academy (2016), joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic as a receptionist in July 2023. Coming from a large family with eight siblings, Cheyenne grew up surrounded by animals, including dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, and a rat.

Cheyenne shares her home with two dogs, Skye-berry, a Husky mix, and Peaches, a Chihuahua mix. In her free time, she enjoys a wide range of hobbies, including reading, swimming, off-roading, traveling, karaoke, music, art, and writing. She humorously notes that she is powered by caffeine and funny memes, bringing a bright and energetic presence to our front desk.

Ashley Yates, who joined Pioneer Veterinary Clinic as a receptionist in October 2024, is a Moses Lake local, having moved here from Tacoma, WA, at the age of four. Growing up in Moses Lake, Ashley was actively involved in 4-H and competitive barrel racing, always surrounded by animals, including horses, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats.

Ashley shares her home with a large and diverse animal family, including five dogs: Red, Reba, Wrangler, Daisy, and Cooper, two parakeets, 22 chickens, 3 ducks, and several barn cats. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and animals, watching her favorite TV shows, cooking, and occasionally gaming, reflecting her love for both animals and home life.

Originally from San Jose, California, Angela moved to Moses Lake at a young age and is a graduate of Moses Lake High School. She earned a BA in Criminal Justice from AIU, but her love for animals led her to a career in veterinary medicine.

Angela and her husband, married in 2013, have a daughter, Brooklyn, and remember their angel baby, Noah. Their pet family includes two dogs, Milo and Chloe, and two cats, Kitty and Aspen. In her spare time, Angela enjoys reading, coloring, listening to music, watching movies, biking/hiking, working out, and spending time with her family.

She graduated from Washington State University in 2015 with a degree in Animal Science and worked in the veterinary field for 1.5 years before joining our team.

Tara shares her home with three dogs: Baxter, Breezy, and Winifred, all Corgis or Corgi mixes. In her free time, Tara enjoys traveling, hiking, fishing, hunting, and cheering on WSU college football with her husband – Go Cougs!

She initially studied Criminal Justice at Big Bend Community College before deciding to pursue her passion for animal health. Giselle’s goal is to gain experience as a Veterinary Assistant and eventually become a Veterinary Technician. She has a cat named Jax and enjoys going to the gym, hiking, dancing, and drawing in her free time.

Mariah’s personal animal family is extensive and diverse, including two kittens (Meesha and Sasha, one adopted after being hit by a car and the other rescued from the streets), a Silkie chicken named Yeti, a Peach-faced Lovebird named Chico, a Ball Python named Maui, and a Yorkie named Hudson. Mariah’s passion for animals is evident in her work and her personal life, making her a valuable and caring member of our team.

A Moses Lake native currently residing in Othello with her husband Shane, Misty is a mother of five and grandmother of seven. She shares her home with three dogs, Sadie, Jax, and Jasper, and a cat named James. In her spare time, Misty enjoys gardening, canning, camping, fishing, and crafting with her Cricut, showcasing her diverse skills and interests.
