Three years ago, the allure of The Pioneer Woman’s Rib Eye Steak with Whiskey Cream Sauce first caught my eye. It promised a delightful experience, but like many home cooks, I often lean towards healthier, budget-friendly meals. Rib-eye steaks, admittedly, aren’t the most economical choice. 😉 However, a special occasion arose this week – Christopher’s first day at his new job! A celebratory steak and potato dinner felt absolutely necessary. That’s when I remembered this recipe, and oh-my-gracious, I’m so glad I did! It truly is a taste of heaven.
First things first, whiskey is essential. Funny story – I had never actually bought whiskey before. Ever. I hadn’t even tasted it! It was a bit of a surprise to discover that whiskey wasn’t available at the regular grocery store. It took me a moment to realize a separate liquor store was required. Ha! Stepping into the liquor store, I was immediately greeted by an employee offering assistance. Perhaps I looked utterly lost, or maybe they thought I was underage. 😉
I explained my need for the smallest bottle of whiskey, and they directed me to request a “two shot bottle” from behind the counter. Turns out, it was the perfect amount! I used precisely half for the recipe, leaving just enough for a repeat performance! 😀 Christopher and I even bravely tried whiskey straight from the bottle for the first time… His sip was tiny, mine barely two drops… and we both recoiled with a grimace, noses burning! It was quite an experience. I’m still unsure how anyone enjoys it neat. But, as they say, it’s likely an acquired taste. But I digress…

Seriously, this steak was unbelievably delicious. Words truly fail to capture how amazing it was. I even took a slight liberty and bought one rib eye and one sirloin steak, curious to see if there would be a noticeable difference. While the rib eye was indeed superior, the sirloin was also incredibly tasty! Given that rib eye isn’t an everyday purchase for us (at $14/lb, it’s a splurge!), we’ll definitely be making this recipe again, perhaps with a more budget-friendly cut of meat. However, for truly special celebrations, we might just go all out for rib eye again! 🙂 We’re already planning to recreate this incredible whiskey cream sauce and serve it over burgers this weekend. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Seriously, you have to make this. Do it now. You absolutely won’t regret it!
