Pizza Barn’s story began in Pioneer, Ohio, not merely as a business venture, but as an extension of Bob and Ruth Martin’s ministry. Driven by a desire to provide local youth with a positive and wholesome environment, the Pizza Barn Pioneer location opened its doors. “Ruth and I have always been involved with the youth at our church and stuff, and we wanted to give the kids in town a good place to hang out,” explains Martin, highlighting the restaurant’s original mission. This commitment to community extends beyond their local presence; Martin’s dedication is further illustrated by his trips to Brazil, where he distributes essential supplies to those in need, showcasing a spirit of generosity that permeates the entire Pizza Barn ethos.
Over the years, Pizza Barn has evolved from its humble beginnings in Pioneer, offering a simple menu of pizza, pop, and ice cream, to a diverse culinary destination with two locations. Despite this growth, the core purpose remains unchanged. Pizza Barn continues to be a popular spot for students, especially after school and during sports events. “After school’s out, if they’ve got a ball game we get a lot of school kids,” Martin notes. Their commitment to local schools is further demonstrated through supplying pizza for school pizza days at Camden-Frontier and Reading, and catering for band camps at Kimball Camp YMCA, solidifying their role as an integral part of the community fabric.

During a visit to Pizza Barn, I had the pleasure of trying their chicken, bacon, ranch supreme pizza. This culinary creation boasts a perfectly buttery and crispy crust that cradles a generous and flavorful blend of creamy white sauce and melted mozzarella cheese.
