Crock-Pot Recall: Important Safety Notice for Home Cooks

Millions of Crock-Pot multi-cookers are being recalled due to a significant burn hazard, prompting concern among users of various brands, including those who rely on Pioneer Woman Crock Pots for their home cooking. Sunbeam Products, the maker of Crock-Pot, has initiated a recall of nearly a million units sold at major retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart after numerous reports of lids detaching during use, causing scalding injuries from hot food and liquids.

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) notice details that the recalled Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker can unexpectedly pressurize even when the lid is not fully locked. This malfunction can lead to the lid suddenly blowing off, ejecting hot contents and posing a serious burn risk to anyone nearby.

Sunbeam Products has received 119 reports of lid detachment incidents, with 99 resulting in injuries. These injuries range from first-degree to third-degree burns, highlighting the severity of the defect. The recall specifically targets the Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker with model number SCCPPC600-V1, which is identified on a label at the bottom of the unit.

These multi-cookers were manufactured in China between July 1, 2017, and October 1, 2018. The date codes, ranging from K196JN through K365JN and L001JN through L273JN, are engraved on one of the prongs of the electrical plug and on the bottom of the base. Consumers who purchased a Crock-Pot between July 2017 and November 2020, either in stores or online, should check their model number and date codes immediately to determine if their appliance is included in this recall. Approximately 942,760 units were sold in the U.S. and an additional 28,330 in Canada.
