Celebrating a Century of Service: United Way of Pioneer Valley Springfield MA & Mass 2-1-1 Expansion

Marking a significant milestone, the United Way of Pioneer Valley (UWPV) celebrated its 100th anniversary alongside the inauguration of a new Mass2-1-1 satellite office in Springfield, MA. This dual celebration, held on February 11th, recognized a century of UWPV’s commitment to the Pioneer Valley and the vital expansion of the Mass2-1-1 service, bringing enhanced mental health support to the Springfield community.

The centennial celebrations coincided with the annual 2-1-1 Day, a nationwide event highlighting the crucial 2-1-1 service. Mass2-1-1 is the Commonwealth’s comprehensive information and referral service, offering 24/7 support via phone and web, every day of the year. Call2Talk, the mental health helpline within Mass2-1-1, will be significantly bolstered by this new Springfield location.

The Mass211 Call2Talk satellite office is strategically located within the United Way of Pioneer Valley’s premises at 1441 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01103. This collaboration extends to Springfield College, with students from their master’s program staffing the office, providing valuable hands-on experience while contributing to this essential community service.

In honor of United Way of Pioneer Valley’s enduring legacy, Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno officially proclaimed February 11, 2021, as “United Way of Pioneer Valley Day” in the city. This proclamation underscores the deep appreciation for UWPV’s century-long dedication to Springfield and the broader Pioneer Valley region.

Mayor Sarno emphasized the critical importance of Mass 2-1-1 and Call2Talk, especially during challenging times. “Access to mental health resources is more crucial than ever,” stated Mayor Sarno, acknowledging the ongoing impact of COVID-19. He further thanked Lt. Governor Karen Polito, Mass 2-1-1 VP Eileen Davis, and the dedicated staff and volunteers. The Mayor also lauded the partnership with Springfield College and expressed profound gratitude to Paul Mina and the United Way of Pioneer Valley for their century of unwavering support to the community, highlighting their continued efforts to meet the evolving needs of Springfield residents.
