Born on November 14, 1955, in Thief River Falls, MN, Susan was the daughter of Herbert and Marion (Erickson) Vraa. Her early years were spent in Goodridge, MN, where she experienced the values and hard work of a dairy farm family. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Ekelund Lutheran Church, becoming deeply rooted in her community and faith from a young age. Susan graduated from Goodridge High School in 1974. Later, her pursuit of education brought her to Bemidji, MN, where she attended Bemidji State University, further shaping her path as an educator. August 1990 marked a significant moment in Susan’s life as she married Butch Eck in Bemidji, MN. The joy of motherhood arrived in 1992 with the birth of their son, Jesse Joel.
