Naperville Police Investigate Vehicle Explosion at Pioneer Park

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Naperville residents were startled by a loud explosion on Tuesday evening, July 9, 2024, prompting a police investigation at Pioneer Park. At approximately 9:33 p.m., authorities responded to calls reporting a significant blast near Washington Street and Olympus Drive.

Upon arrival, officers located the source of the commotion in the parking area of Pioneer Park, situated at 1212 S. Washington Street. A 25-year-old man from Bolingbrook contacted the police, reporting that his vehicle had exploded within the Pioneer Park parking lot.

Responding to the scene at Pioneer Park, Naperville Police discovered a severely damaged vehicle and the injured individual. The Naperville Fire Department also arrived and provided medical assistance, transporting the Bolingbrook man to a nearby hospital. His injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening.

The incident at Pioneer Park is currently under active investigation by the Naperville Police Department.
